Bluetech - Sines and Singularities

Bluetech - Sines and Singularities

A review of Sines and Singularities, a synthetic, reverb-drenched downtempo album from Bluetech (Evan Bartholomew).

Artist: Bluetech · Year: 2005 · Rating: ★★★

Bluetech, a.k.a. Evan Bartholomew, brings a decidedly electronic downtempo vibe on Sines and Singularities, one of three Bluetech albums on the list, some in full.

The provenance

All three enter the Monkey Radio spreadsheet via the Spotify list created by a fan, and so are less authoritatively linked with the station than those from some other sources; take the inclusion with a grain of salt. That said, the album timeframes are within MR’s lifespan, and there are plenty of tracks on the list that are at least adjacent to the vibe, so they remain in the rotation for the time being.

The sound

Sines and Singularities is beep-and-boop heavy; the sound is synthetic and multi-textured, relying on cascading reverbs and delays to build the ambiance. Beats lean into driving quarter notes for a downtempo danceability. The tones are pleasant, mildly danceable, but lack some of the character of other artists in the playlist. This one falls at a consumable but ultimately forgettable 3/5 stars.
