Groove: A New Deep Dive on Ripping Vinyl

Groove: A New Deep Dive on Ripping Vinyl

A few Monkey Radio tracks only ever existed on wax. There’s now a deep dive on how they got digitized — the gear, the levels, and the judgment calls.

A handful of tracks on the station never made the jump to digital — the only way to get them was to track down the vinyl and rip it myself. There’s now a deep dive on exactly how that happened.

Wax On, Wax Off covers the three vinyl-only tracks (Visit Venus, Fazed Idjuts, and Roots Manuva), the rig I used, and the process for digitizing a record while preserving its character — levels, recording, mastering, declicking, and splitting the sides back into tracks.

If you’ve ever wondered why a couple of these songs carry a little surface noise as they roll by on the station, that’s the story. Find it alongside the rest over on the deep dives page.
